<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Movies ]]> https://www.gamesradar.com 2025-04-02T09:29:20Z en <![CDATA[ Batman and Top Gun star Val Kilmer dies age 65 ]]> Val Kilmer has died at the age of 65. The legendary actor appeared in some of the biggest hits of the '80s and '90s, including Top Gun and Batman Forever.

He began his career on the stage, before his breakthrough in Top Gun and Real Genius in the mid-'80s. However, it was his performances in Willow (1988) and as Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone's The Doors (1991) that really secured him as a name to watch. He played Batman in 1995's Batman Forever, as well as starring in iconic movies like True Romance, Heat, and Kiss Kiss Bang.

In recent years, Kilmer hasn't appeared on screen much, but he did make a memorable appearance in 2022's Top Gun: Maverick. He reunited with Tom Cruise in the movie, reprising his role as fighter pilot Iceman. At the time, director Joseph Kosinski told GamesRadar+ that it was a "really memorable day" filming the scene.

He shared: "To get a chance to work with him was a dream come true, to do it with him playing Iceman and to be able to do it in a scene where he and Tom are together to people who have so much respect for each other, and to have it be a reunion of not only two characters, but two men in real life… [It was a] really emotional day."

News of Kilmer's death was shared by his daughter Mercedes, who confirmed he had died of pneumonia. Kilmer previously had throat cancer but later recovered.

Tributes have poured in for the star, including from Heat director Michael Mann. “While working with Val on Heat I always marvelled at the range, the brilliant variability within the powerful current of Val’s possessing and expressing character," he said via Variety. "After so many years of Val battling disease and maintaining his spirit, this is tremendously sad news.”

Josh Brolin also reacted to the news on Instagram, writing: "See ya, pal. I’m going to miss you. You were a smart, challenging, brave, uber-creative firecracker. There’s not a lot left of those. I hope to see you up there in the heavens when I eventually get there. Until then, amazing memories, lovely thoughts."

Our thoughts are with Kilmer's family at this time.

<![CDATA[ New footage of James Gunn's Superman shown behind closed doors features Krypto the Superdog and plenty of laughs ]]> New footage for Superman touched down at CinemaCon, and it looks like the upcoming DC movie will be bringing the laughs.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the previously unseen footage showed "Superman getting assistance from a particularly rambunctious Krypto, who eventually drags him into the Fortress of Solitude. A number of lines were greeted with laughter from the crowd."

When director James Gunn took to the stage, he said, "I cannot wait to share the film with all you guys and the rest of the world.” He added, “We’re still in the throes of post-production."

This follows on the heels of the movie's massive first trailer, which introduced us to David Corenswet's Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor – and most importantly, Krypto the Superdog.

This is the first movie in Gunn's DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, following on from the TV show Creature Commandos.

Speaking about the first trailer, Gunn teased the tone of the movie. "I think I wanted the trailer to really get the essence of the film," he said. "You know, the film is optimistic, yet not without its darker moments. It's a big science fiction movie, but at the same time, incredibly grounded in the way we treat the characters and everything else. So I wanted it to be something that was the essence of Superman, that was the Superman that I grew up with, that I love, but also something new at the same time."

Superman will hit theaters on July 11. In the meantime, check out our guide to all the upcoming DC movies and shows for everything else the DCU has in store.

<![CDATA[ Keanu Reeves is returning for John Wick 5 as the franchise expands with an anime prequel series and a Caine spin-off movie ]]> John Wick's not dead...even though he sorta kinda died.

It was revealed during CinemaCon that Keanu Reeves is set to return for John Wick 5, though Lionsgate didn't say much else. They did, however, say a whole lot about two other brand new projects in the John Wick Universe. Donnie Yen is not only set to reprise his role as blind assassin Caine in a spin-off movie, but direct the pic himself.

"The John Wick films have set an immensely high standard for action filmmaking and I greatly appreciate Lionsgate giving me the opportunity to further elevate the franchise," Yen said during the Lionsgate panel. "I am both thrilled and deeply inspired to make this happen.”

The studio also announced an anime prequel series, in which Reeves will lend his voice. Per Variety, the prequel series will "recount the origins of Wick as he completes the Impossible Task [...] to free himself from his obligation to the High Table and earn the right to be with the love of his life, Helen." Shannon Tindle, who helmed Netflix's Ultraman: Rising, is set to direct.

Reeves will appear as Wick in Ballerina, the upcoming spin-off movie that stars Ana de Armas as a dancer-turned-assassin, before suiting up once again for John Wick 5.

Ballerina hits theaters on June 6. John Wick 5 does not yet have a release date. For more, check out our list of the most exciting upcoming movies in 2025 and beyond, or, skip right to our list of movie release dates.

<![CDATA[ Spider-Man: Brand New Day - How Peter Parker and Mary Jane's break up led to one of the wall-crawler's most transformative comic eras ]]> Face front, true believers! Marvel Studios has just announced the official title for Spider-Man 4, and it's quite a doozy. The film, which will star Tom Holland as the returning Peter Parker, has been officially titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, taking its name directly from one of the most expansive (and in some ways, polarizing) eras in the history of Spider-Man comics.

In comics, the subtitle 'Brand New Day' was given to the Amazing Spider-Man ongoing series for several years following the events of the much-maligned story Spider-Man: One More Day, in which Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson dissolved their marriage in order to save the life of Peter's Aunt May.

If that sounds like a lot, it sure was. The demon Mephisto demanded Peter and MJ give up their marriage in exchange for his magical help with the dying Aunt May, leading to larger, more sweeping changes to Spidey's history that even rewrote and redefined some of his most tragic events.

However, with Brand New Day, Spider-Man moved away from some of the mystical elements that had been bogging down the title for several years, refocusing on Spidey's place as a superhero in the Marvel Universe while also introducing popular new villains and redefining some of the classics.

So what does it mean that Spider-Man 4 has taken on the Brand New Day title? And how will this affect the MCU? We'll get into it right now.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day in comics

When it comes to the Brand New Day era, which took up most of 2008, it would basically be impossible to run down every single thing that happened, with the classic Amazing Spider-Man comic title releasing three or four times a month for that entire time, with literally dozens of creators contributing to the mix for a 100-issue spanning status quo.

What's really important is how Brand New Day redefined Spider-Man and brought him back to his sci-fi superhero roots after several years of increasingly more convoluted magical complications to his origins and adventures, while also reinstating some lost aspects of Spidey's mythos, and even bringing in some new villains for good measure.

Let's start with what changed between One More Day and Brand New Day. Along with the dissolution of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson's marriage, Brand New Day brought the resurrection of Harry Osborn, Peter's best friend who died years earlier after a brief career inheriting his father's villainous mantle of the Green Goblin.

At the same time, Peter's secret identity as Spider-Man, which had become public during the events of Marvel's hero-vs-hero Civil War comic event, was once again wiped from the public's consciousness, much like what happens in the MCU at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

These three simple changes brought sweeping ripples to Peter's life, bringing him back to basics as Spider-Man and redefining his supporting cast, including his rogue's gallery, which gained several important new entries, several of whom have stuck around to become important parts of Spidey's world, even into other media.

Along with adventures featuring classic villains such as Doctor Octopus, Kraven, the Lizard, and more, Brand New Day introduced several new villains, notably Mister Negative and Screwball, both of whom were later brought into video games as major parts of the game Marvel's Spider-Man. Brand New Day also introduced Jackpot, a luck based hero who was hinted to be Mary Jane Watson, but who turned out to be someone totally different.

Interestingly enough, in recent years, Mary Jane actually has taken up the mantle and powers of Jackpot - though she's also just been revealed as the current host of the Venom symbiote.

What does Spider-Man: Brand New Day mean for the MCU?

Spider-Man's final swing in Spider-Man: No Way Home

Given the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which reset Peter Parker's public identity and split him off from his own MJ (Zendaya's Michelle Jones-Watson), it makes a lot of sense that Marvel Studios and Sony would settle on Brand New Day as the right subtitle for Spider-Man 4.

What's more, the film's final shot was a look at Spider-Man in the closest adaptation of his comic book costume that's graced the MCU yet, potentially signaling the end of the high-tech Stark-suit era of the character that set the MCU Peter Parker apart from his previous film incarnations.

Even Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland, is hinting that things will be quite different for Peter Parker in the new film, saying in a video presented at CinemaCon "I know we left you with a massive cliffhanger at the end of No Way Home, so Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a fresh start. It is exactly that. That's all I can say."

And with rumors swirling that actor Sadie Sink may in fact be playing an alt version of Mary Jane who hews closer to her comic book counterpart in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, we may be looking at a totally new era for Spider-Man in the MCU which, rather than wrapping the core themes of Spider-Man in an MCU-specific package, may just be turning all the way back to comics for its inspiration.

It would be just a bit ironic if the Brand New Day subtitle was used to pair up MCU Peter Parker with a more comics accurate Mary Jane Watson, considering their split was the hallmark of the Brand New Day comic book era.

Nonetheless, that may be a balm to beleaguered comic book fans who, nearly 20 years after their split, still demand the reunion of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson in the official Marvel Comics reality - something that has only happened in alt-reality comics such as the current Ultimate Spider-Man, in which Peter and MJ are married.

In other words, Spider-Man: Brand New Day could be a golden opportunity for the MCU to dial in on a classic, definitive take on Spider-Man that honors the past while also innovating for the future. And if Marvel Studios and Sony can pull that off they'll certainly make a lot of fans happy - and bring in the big bucks that previous Spider-Man films have managed to command.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released on July 31, 2026 with filming starting soon. For more, check out our guide to upcoming Marvel movies and shows as well as our breakdown of how to watch the Marvel movies in order.

<![CDATA[ You can get an early 5-minute preview of James Gunn's Superman, if you go see A Minecraft Movie ]]> Good news for comic book fans and gamers: every showing of A Minecraft Movie will now include a five-minute screening of James Gunn's Superman.

The official Twitter account for the Superman movie announced the news with a video from cast members David Corenswet, who plays the Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan, who stars as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult, who plays billionaire supervillain Lex Luthor. The five-minute clip from DC's upcoming Superman movie, which marks the first feature-length project in James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DCU, will play during the previews before A Minecraft Movie. You can check out the announcement below.

Both movies are highly anticipated and kid-friendly, so the collaboration makes sense (not to mention Warner Bros. is distributing both films).

A feature-length adaptation of the popular world-building video game Minecraft was announced back in 2019, and went through several changes in writers and directors before landing on Napoleon Dynamite helmer Jared Hess and screenwriters Chris Bowman, Hubbel Palmer, Neil Widener, Gavin James, and Chris Galletta. Superman was first announced in 2023 after a follow-up to 2014's Man of Steel was scrapped and both the DCEU and Snyderverse were retired. Gunn directs and wrote the screenplay, which boasts a much lighter tone than what we've seen from DC in recent years.

A Minecraft Movie hits theaters on April 4. Superman flies into theaters and IMAX on July 11, 2025. For more, check out our list of upcoming movies, or, check out the ever-growing list of upcoming video game movies.

<![CDATA[ Welcome to the MCU, Bob - We just got our best look yet at The Sentry thanks to a Thunderbolts* action figure ]]> We've just gotten our best glimpse yet at what the Sentry will look like in the MCU as played by Lewis Pullman in the upcoming Thunderbolts* movie thanks to a toy reveal that shows off his full costume in one of the first official images of the character - albeit as an action figure. Check it out:

Marvel Legends action figure of The Sentry in Thunderbolts*

The Sentry figure was shown as part of Hasbro Pulse's April 1 Fan Stream, which revealed the next wave of Marvel Legends 6-inch action figures, including several based on the characters of Thunderbolts*. Along with Sentry, who will be sold in a two-pack alongside Wyatt Russell's US Agent, Hasbro also revealed a two-pack of Yelena Belova and Red Guardian in their Thunderbolts* costumes.

That said, we've seen Yelena, Red Guardian, and US Agent all over the trailers for Thunderbolts*, but Sentry himself has only been seen in fleeting flashes and silhouettes. And though some other merchandise has been unofficially leaked showing what Sentry might look like, the Marvel Legends figure reveal is the best official look yet at the character's movie suit.

It's important to note that Marvel Legends MCU figures are produced on a timeline that coincides with the production of the films they're based on, so this figure is most likely based on the concept art for the actual costume worn by Lewis Pullman in the film, meaning there are likely to be slight discrepancies between the toy's finer details and those of the onscreen costume. The specific image, seen above, is also a digital render showing what the figure will look like when it's fully manufactured.

It's definitely not unheard of for Marvel Legends toys and other merchandise to show off unrevealed aspects of MCU films ahead of their release, but this is a particularly exciting example of the figure line making a reveal of a major character whose full costume has yet to be showcased in a trailer.

The Marvel Legends MCU Thunderbolts* two-packs, including Sentry, will be available for pre-order soon.

Thunderbolts* releases on May 2. For more, see our guides on watching the Marvel movies in order and the Marvel timeline.

<![CDATA[ 14 years after the game was released, the cast of A Minecraft Movie think now is the perfect time for the adaptation to hit screens: "There's so many reasons" ]]> Minecraft fans will know that the popular sandbox game has been around for quite some time now, so why are we only just seeing a movie adaptation hit screens? A Minecraft Movie cast members and director Jared Hess have the answer to that, and why now is the perfect time for the movie to hit screens.

"As right now, the countries, it's crazy town. It is crazy town. And we are actually all trying to survive and figure out how to make it through this world," says star Danielle Brooks to GamesRadar+, referring to the current state of the world. "And I think if you can like escape, whether that be through gaming or watching a movie, take your escape. You know what I mean? Take a moment to like, breathe, and find some peace and laughter. So go see the movie!"

Helmer Hess, best known for his comedy works such as Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, adds that Minecraft creators Mojang Studios have wanted to "make a movie about Minecraft for a long time." Originally created by Markus Persson using the Java, the first public alpha build of the Minecraft game was released in May 2009, before receiving a full release in November 2011. Since then, the game has only grown in popularity and has since spun off other Minecraft games too.

But now, all of the stars have aligned, and with a great cast and creative team behind the film, A Minecraft Movie has finally been born. "So, we are kind of late to the game with this," adds Hess. "But it's just been amazing to do it on such a big scale with such amazing, talented actors."

Sebastian Hansen, Danielle Brooks, and Emma Myers in A Minecraft Movie

Star Sebastian Hansen, who plays Henry – a teenage boy who fills the shoes of every kid who has may have their own troubles in the real world and have used the Minecraft game as an escape, agrees with Hess. "Minecraft is one of the most popular games," says Hansen. "And it is a very good sandbox game. So I think that, you know, every movie is basically a sandbox, because you have to write it, direct it, all of it. So this is definitely a good time."

However, Jack Black on the other hand, feels like you can "never know when the perfect timing is," but with "a little bit of luck and a lot of love, a lot of hard work, blood, sweat and tears," the team can only hope that A Minecraft Movie is well received by fans. "Let's see, and we'll find out."

A Minecraft Movie follows four humans, Henry (Hansen), his sister Natalie (Emma Myers), ex-gaming legend Garret the Garbage Man (Jason Momoa), and real estate agent Dawn (Brooks), who get pulled into a strange cubic world where their only chance of survival falls down to in-game character Steve (Black).

<![CDATA[ Barbarian director says his "wild" Resident Evil movie will be "unlike any of the previous films", says it was "built in the spirit of the games" ]]> Zach Cregger says his "wild" new Resident Evil movie will be "unlike any of the previous films", and we're already intrigued as to what that might mean...

"There are moments in every Resident Evil game where you find yourself standing in the mouth of a dark passageway. One shot in the gun is left," he explained during Sony's presentation at CinemaCon 2025 (per Deadline). "You know that something horrible is waiting for you in that darkness, that awful moment where you have to will yourself.

"That's something that every Resident Evil game has perfected and has kept me and millions of other players returning to the series for decades. My movie will be built in the spirit of those games and follows one central protagonist from point A to point B, as they descend deeper into hell."

While that certainly sounds like a Resident Evil flick, we're now wondering how Cregger is going to differentiate it from adaptations we've seen before. Paul W.S. Anderson's team-centric Resident Evil (2002) and its sequels weren't all that faithful to Capcom's source material, with their original characters, Alice in Wonderland references, and emphasis on the biblical and explosive action rather than dread-inducing biopunk. But Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021), while poorly received, drew heavily from the first two games.

Will Cregger's outing fall somewhere between the two? We'll have to wait and see, because all we know about the movie so far is that Euphoria's Austin Abrams is set to star. Best known for helming Barbarian, Cregger just wrapped filming on Weapons, a new horror starring Abrams, Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Julia Garner, and Josh Brolin that explores "police corruption, generational trauma, witchcraft, blood rituals, and religious abuse in a small Florida community".

Resident Evil releases on September 18, 2026. For more, check out our guide to the most exciting upcoming horror movies heading our way.

<![CDATA[ Matthew Lillard explains why he's "very excited and slightly terrified" to return for Scream 7: "I hope I don't F it up" ]]> Matthew Lillard says he's both excited and terrified to return to the Scream franchise for the first time since his starring role in 1996.

"I will say, I can’t say anything about it, obviously. But I am very excited and slightly terrified to be back because all I can do is really screw up a legacy that we have. I could really suck, and so that’s my fear," Lillard told the crowd at 90s Con (via People).

Lillard, a pop culture icon for the last 30-plus years, starred as Stu Macher in Wes Craven's Scream, the teen slasher that changed the horror genre (and pop culture as a whole) forever. Stu was the original Ghostface alongside Skeet Ulrich's Billy Loomis. While it was implied that his character was killed in the first film...it was never actually confirmed.

If we're getting logistical here, having a TV fall on you from a relatively low height isn't enough to kill you...but we're not scientists. Anyway, it makes sense for Stu Macher to come out of hiding after all these years to torture Sidney Prescott again – and we're here for it.

Continued Lillard: "My fear is that I come back and sort of punish something that I could never have touched and been just fine. I hope I don’t f it up for everyone."

<![CDATA[ Gladiator's Paul Mescal and Saltburn's Barry Keoghan finally confirmed for the long-rumored Beatles cast in a first look announcing the wildest release strategy ]]> Sony has finally confirmed the cast for Sam Mendes' ambitious four-part biopic about The Beatles, and now we know that the rumors were actually true.

Paul Mescal (Gladiator 2) will be playing Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn (Fantastic Four) will portray George Harrison, Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) will be Ringo Starr, and Harris Dickinson (Babygirl) completes the group as John Lennon. It was previously reported that the four stars were in talks to join this project, with the final confirmation arriving during the CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week.

Officially titled The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, each movie will focus on one of the band members, with the official logline saying that "each man has his own story, but together they are legendary."

All four films are arriving in cinemas in April 2028, but it is unclear at this point whether that means a weekly release or other sort of release strategy. Mendes claimed at CinemaCon that this will be the "first binge-able theatrical experience", so it sounds it's going to be an innovative and, frankly, wild experiment.

"We need big cinematic events to get people out of the house," Mendes told the audience at the Las Vegas event (via Variety).

The filmmaker explained that in order to tell the story of "the greatest band in history" he needed something longer than one movie and bigger than a TV series. Through four different perspectives, Mendes will show the band's incredible journey from Liverpool to the world stage. "It's a chance to understand them more deeply," he said.

After winning an Academy Award for American Beauty and helming one of the best James Bond movies ever, Mendes is taking on what is probably the most ambitious project of his movie career. Luckily, he has four of the most promising talents in today's Hollywood, and the music rights for all Beatles songs. What can go wrong?

<![CDATA[ Karate Kid: Legends releases new trailer featuring intense fights, a lot of Karate Kid nostalgia, and Peter Parker comparisons ]]>

Karate Kid: Legends just released a new trailer featuring some intense fights with Jackie Chan's Mr. Han and Ralph Macchio's Daniel LaRusso, as well as a lot of Karate Kid nostalgia.

Ahead of the film's release next month, the new footage teases the film with a special focus on Li Fong (played by Ben Wang), the lead teenager who will learn to fight to defend himself against bullies. "Let's make a karate kid," says LaRusso as he joins forces with Mr. Han. At the end of the trailer, which you can see above, Li is described as "the Chinese Peter Parker", and we love that for him.

We already got a first trailer for Karate Kid: Legends back in December 2024, which showed Mr. Han paying a visit to Daniel LaRusso to enlist his help in training Li, teaching him the Miyagi ways to become the next Karate Kid.

Karate Kid: Legends brings two different Karate Kid worlds together, with Macchio reprising his character from the original movies and the Netflix sequel, and Chan returning for the first time since the 2010 remake. As a new student is in trouble, both martial arts masters join forces to honor the legacy of Mr. Miyagi.

The cast also includes Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley and Ming-Na Wen, with Jonathan Entwistle directing the film from a screenplay by Rob Lieber.

With Cobra Kai season 6 ending last February, we know fans are already starving for more adventures in the franchise. And in case you're wondering how Karate Kid: Legends fits into the Cobra Kai timeline, the events of the new movie take place three years after the ending of Cobra Kai.

The Netflix show is over, but Ralph Macchio wouldn't mind doing a movie in a few years if the upcoming movie is a success. "Listen, I said it was the end for me when I got done with the last 1980s Karate Kid movie. So I will say never say never. If Karate Kid: Legends does well, I would love to see a Cobra Kai movie in two or three years" he said recently.

Karate Kid: Legends is set to hit theaters on May 30, 2025. For more, check out our list of the most exciting upcoming movies in 2024 and beyond, or, skip through our list of movie release dates.

<![CDATA[ Terrifying new trailer for Talk to Me directors' horror follow-up stars Paddington's Sally Hawkins as the foster mom from hell ]]> A new, much longer trailer for Bring Her Back is here – and I have nightmares already.

In the brief clip, which can be viewed below, we don't get the clearest sense of what's going on – and that's what makes it especially terrifying. A new foster child comes to live at a troubled woman's (Sally Hawkins) home – but things are, uh, not what they seem.

We repeatedly cut to camcorder footage of a reanimated corpse, with Hawkins telling someone that the spirit stays in the body three months after death – so there's plenty of time to bring her back. There's also quite a bit of blood, a lot of whispering, way too many vessels for water (it's a possession movie so I feel like a drowning scene is nigh), and a lot of forlorn children looking quite upset. Needless to say, I'll be seated.

The story follows a brother (Billy Barratt) and sister (Sora Wong) who uncover a horrifying ritual in their foster mother’s (Hawkins) home. In the trailer, we see Hawkins cutting the hair off a child's corpse, seemingly to be used in said ritual to bring her back from the dead.

We're going to go out on a limb and say, judging by the trailer, that the whole resurrecting her from the dead thing doesn't go very well and the person who comes back isn't so much a person as it is some evil thing (a la Stephen King's Pet Sematary). Sally-Anne Upton, Stephen Phillips, Liam Damons, and Jonah Wren Phillips also star.

The Philippou brothers, who got their start on YouTube under the channel name RackaRacka, released the ultra-scary Talk to Me – you know, the horror movie about the dead hand that possesses people in 2023. The film earned $92 million against a budget of just $4 million. A sequel to Talk to Me is on the way, though it does not yet have a release date.

Bring Her Back hits theaters on May 29. For more, check out our list of the most exciting upcoming movies in 2025 and beyond, or, check out our list of movie release dates.

<![CDATA[ Venom star Tom Hardy says they "got as close as [he] could possibly imagine" to a Spider-Man crossover, which he would have "loved" to have done ]]> Venom star Tom Hardy says he "would have loved to have done" a crossover movie with Tom Holland's Spider-Man during his time playing the head-munching symbiote.

While promoting his new crime series Mobland, the actor appeared as a guest on The Discourse Podcast, where host Mike DeAngelo asked why Hardy's Eddie Brock never met Peter Parker on screen on behalf of his Marvel-loving kids.

"I don't know how to answer that question. We got close," Hardy replied. "We got as close as I could possibly imagine getting, apart from doing a film together, which I would have loved to have done because that just means so much fun."

He seemingly went on to confirm why we never saw the webslinger in the Venom flicks, replying to DeAngelo's suggestion that it was studio politics with: "For all the reasons that you explained ultimately in there."

Comic book fans thought we might actually get a Spidey/Venom flick following the release of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. In its mid-credits scene, Eddie is seen quizzing Venom on his knowledge of other universes when a bright light fills their hotel room and they're suddenly transported to an alternate suite. In it, a TV is playing a Daily Bugle broadcast, in which J.K. Simmons' J. Jonah Jameson reveals Peter Parker is Spider-Man.

Venom: The Last Dance's opener backtracked quickly, though, as Eddie and Venom are forced back to Earth-688 due to the correction of Doctor Strange's botched spell.

"We were given a set of boundaries, and we were just really privileged to be able to play with a much-beloved IP like Venom in a way that we were allowed to play," Hardy continued. "In that [regard], we did what we could and what we loved doing. We poured all of ourselves into it within the remits of what we were allowed to do with him. And so the enjoyment of the work outweighed the limits of our possibilities with him because we just focused on what we were allowed to do. And we loved doing it."

<![CDATA[ Jack Black and Danielle Brooks say starring in A Minecraft Movie made them feel like a kid again: "I let my inner child lead this movie" ]]> The Minecraft game was released over 15 years ago now, meaning that many young adults going to see new video game adaptation A Minecraft Movie this April will be reconnecting with the world they fell in love with as kids. But audiences are not alone in feeling this sense of nostalgia, as stars Jack Black, Danielle Brooks and director Jared Hess say that making the movie brought out their inner child too.

"There was a lot of my inner child in there, and it's that sense of play and that sense of creative freedom that I think has guided me since I was a kid, you know, and continues to this day when I'm at my best," says Black exclusively to GamesRadar+. "Think it's important to hold on to that when you can."

Brooks, who in the movie plays real-world character Dawn, new to the Minecraft world, feels the same way. "100%, I let my inner child lead this movie. I let her speak for me, improv for me, laugh for me, run for me," adds Brooks. "It was a lot of fun getting to connect to her, especially because I've been playing so many, like, serious roles lately."

Although the movie is rated PG and is certainly targeted towards kids and die-hard Minecraft fans, just like all of the best video game movies, the film really caters to all ages. This was something that was very important to director Jared Hess, who first got into the Minecraft game by playing it with his children. Hess adds that because of this, being in touch with your inner child was "critical" for the team.

"Everybody involved in making the film, we’re all big kids at heart, and so we really wanted to experience everything through the eyes of a kid," said Hess. "And as we kind of picked our favorite elements of the game and brought them into this story for the big screen. That's just something that we held onto through the whole process."

A Minecraft Movie follows four regular world humans, teenager Henry (Sebastian Hansen), his sister Natalie (Emma Myers), local business owner and ex-gaming legend Garret the Garbage Man (Jason Momoa), and animal-loving real estate agent Dawn (Brooks), who get pulled into a strange cubic world known as the Overworld. However, the four soon realize that their only chance of survival falls down to in-game character Steve (Black) – yep, the same Steve from the beloved Minecraft game.

A Minecraft Movie hits screens on April 4. For more, keep up with upcoming video game movies and upcoming movies heading your way.

<![CDATA[ Jason Momoa confirms he's returning for Dune 3, and he doesn't care if that's a spoiler: "If you didn't read the books, it's not my fault" ]]> Jason Momoa has confirmed that he'll return as Duncan Idaho in Dune 3 – and if that counts as a spoiler… well, he doesn't really care.

"I’m making a comeback," Momoa teased during an appearance on TODAY.

"Well, I’m not sure if I’m going to get in trouble or not, but it’s the same thing like Game of Thrones, you know what I mean?" he added. "If you didn’t read the books, it’s not my fault, right? Yeah, there’s going to be… I’m going to be coming back."

Duncan Idaho was the swordmaster for House Atreides and a mentor to Paul (Timothée Chalamet), who becomes the Atreides' ambassador to the Fremen after they move to Arrakis. He died during the events of the first Dune movie after he sacrificed himself to save Paul and Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) and allow them to escape from the Emperor's Sardaukar troops.

In the books, however, death doesn't quite spell the end for Duncan. In Frank Herbert's sequel novel Dune Messiah, he's resurrected as a ghola, which is essentially a clone made from the cells of a corpse, and gifted to Paul by the Tleilaxu, a sect in the Dune universe who we have yet to meet in the movies.

Dune 3 doesn't have a release date yet, but the movie is due to start filming this summer. Next up for Momoa, though, is some slightly fare: A Minecraft Movie. He plays Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison, a human who gets stuck in the cubic world of the hit video game. He stars alongside Jack Black, Jennifer Coolidge, and Danielle Brooks.

A Minecraft Movie arrives in theaters on April 4. In the meantime, fill out your watchlist with our guide to the other upcoming video game movies on the way in 2025 and beyond.

<![CDATA[ Danny Boyle confirms Cillian Murphy will be in the 28 Years Later trilogy, as he admits he's still trying to find funding for the third movie ]]> Danny Boyle has confirmed Cillian Murphy will be in the new 28 Years Later series – though fans will have to exercise patience ahead of the Oppenheimer star showing up in the zombie horror sequel.

"Like all good things in life, you may have to wait a little while for him to make his appearance," the filmmaker teased during Sony's presentation at CinemaCon 2025.

Just a few months back, fans became convinced Murphy had a cameo in 28 Years Later, which picks up almost three decades after the Rage Virus destroyed London and beyond, after an infected man who closely resembled him was glimpsed in the first trailer. It was later revealed, however, that said man was actually art dealer-turned-actor Angus Neill, and that Murphy's apocalypse survivor Jim was still alive and would feature in a follow-up. Details of his return remain firmly under wraps.

"I still love an apocalypse, British-style. I still love the infected. And I still love blowing shit up," Boyle added from the event, as he went on to reveal that he's still trying to sort financing for his planned trilogy capper. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he then encouraged people to go support 28 Years Later, and already-filmed second installment 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, in cinemas.

Written by Alex Garland, who penned the original back in 2002, the new flick is set to follow Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), Isla (Jodie Comer), and their son Spike (Alfie Williams) as they're forced to leave the safety of their island to carry out a mission on the mainland. There, they "discover secrets, wonders and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well," reads the official synopsis.

The Bone Temple's cast and plot are mysteries for now, but we do know that it was directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman, The Marvels). "While it's very much informed by 28 Days Later, the script for The Bone Temple is very different," she told the CinemaCon crowd. "I was able to let my freak flag fly."

28 Years Later releases on June 20. For more, check out our list of the best horror movies of all time, or our guide to some of the other upcoming horror movies heading our way.

<![CDATA[ Upcoming anime Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc reveals US release date with a gory new poster ]]> Good news anime fans, the new Chainsaw Man movie has finally set an international release date.

Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, will hit US screens on October 29. This means that fans in the US will only have to wait just over one month to see the film after it premieres in Japan on September 19. The news was confirmed by Sony Pictures at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, as reported by CrunchyRoll. Sony has acquired worldwide theatrical rights to the movie, and will bring the anime adaptation to more than 80+ countries from September 24, 2025.

Sony then revealed the news to the world via Twitter, alongside a new bloody poster featuring the Chainsaw Man himself wielding his bladed arms. Check out the post below.

The movie serves as a sequel to the highly popular 2022 anime TV show Chainsaw Man, which is in turn adapted from the manga of the same name by Tatsuki Fujimoto. The show follows a teenage boy named Denji who is forced to harvest devil corpses for the Chainsaw Devil Pochita. However, one day Denji is killed himself, but before he passes to the other side, he makes a deal with Pochita to be revived as a man with the devil’s heart known as Chainsaw Man.

The Chainsaw Man Movie seems to pick up from where season 1 leaves off and sees Denji now happily part of the Special Division 4's devil hunters and dating the woman of his dreams Makima. However, things take a turn after Denji meets local café worker named Reze (hence the Reze Arc).

The film welcomes back some of the original Chainsaw Man crew, such as director Tatsuya Yoshihara, who previously directed the fourth and tenth episodes of the series, and writer Hiroshi Seko. Original character designer Kazutaka Sugiyama is also back on board.

Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc hits US cinemas on October 29, 2025. For more, check out our list of the best anime, or keep up with new anime heading your way this year.

<![CDATA[ Tom Holland says Spider-Man 4 will be a "fresh start" after its new title links to divisive Marvel comic storyline ]]> The first major details have been revealed for Spider-Man 4, and they're very interesting. The new film will see the return of Tom Holland's Peter Parker and will be called Brave New Day.

Speaking at the annual CinemaCon event, Holland and director Destin Daniel Cretton appeared to give audiences the news and tease what will come next. According to The Independent, the Spidey star said in a video message: "I am so sorry I can't be with you. I am halfway around the world shooting a movie. I know we left you with a massive cliffhanger at the end of No Way Home, so Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a fresh start. It is exactly that. That's all I can say."

Not only does the new title mark a move away from the "home" titles we've seen so far, but it also is a direct reference to a very intriguing comic book storyline. It ran in 2008 and was essentially a soft reboot for Peter Parker after he agreed to terms set out by Mephisto to sacrifice his marriage to Mary-Jane in order to save the life of his Aunt May.

With memories of their marriage erased, he resumed his secret identity while losing the years of history he made with MJ and others. As you might imagine, it was a pretty divisive storyline when it was first released, but it could fit well with the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

At the end of that movie, Doctor Strange cast a spell erasing the world's memories of Parker being Spider-Man. The poignant final shots of that movie saw him looking on at his friends who had no memory of him even existing.

Spider-Man 4 will be released on July 31, 2026 with filming starting soon. For more, check out our guide to upcoming Marvel movies and shows as well as our breakdown of how to watch the Marvel movies in order.

<![CDATA[ After being indefinitely delayed for two years, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse reveals first images and footage as it finally sets a release date ]]> Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse has finally confirmed a release date after being indefinitely delayed for almost two years. Sony Marvel's animated threequel will now land in cinemas on June 4, 2027.

This new release date, announced this week at the CinemaCon, sees the film arriving more than three years later than originally planned. Beyond the Spider-Verse was set to be released on March 29, 2024, but it was pushed back because of the Hollywood strikes.

Summer 2027 seems quite far away now, but luckily we have some first-look images to keep us going. The newly released pics show Miles Morales, Gwen and The Prowler, along with some incredible visuals and gorgeous animation style.

These scenes align with the first-look footage shown exclusively at the CinemaCon, which sees Miles and Gwen reuniting, as well as Miles fighting The Prowler before going on an adventure with him (via DiscussingFilm).

These images are giving as a glimpse at the upcoming threequel and its major players. During the CinemaCon, filmmakers Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson teased a little bit of the story, revealing that Miles Morales is on the run and his friends might not be able to save him. "Everyone keeps telling me how my story is supposed to go," Miles says in the early footage (via Deadline).

In case you need a quick reminder, the ending of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse sees Miles in a different reality where he encounters a parallel version of him who has transformed into The Prowler. The cliffhanger promises more adventures in the multiverse, as Miles will likely fight to find his way home.

Beyond the Spider-Verse is written by David Callam, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with Persichetti and Thompson leading the production as directors after working on the previous two movies.

<![CDATA[ Zack Snyder is trading in superhero movies for the UFC – and everyone is making the same joke ]]> Zack Snyder is trading in DC for the UFC and directing a new movie about an up-and-coming fighter who gets a shot at the top.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Brawler will follow the story of a "young fighter rising from the rough streets of Los Angeles to get a shot at a UFC championship but having to battle his inner demons as he fights for redemption."

Snyder is also set to pen the screenplay with executive producers Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad, the latter being his frequent collaborator who co-wrote 300 and Rebel Moon.

"Behind every great fighter is the story of how they got there. UFC is the world leader in combat sports, and I’m honored to be partnering with them to tell this incredible story," Snyder said in a statement.

In response to the news, fans, of course, are all making the same joke about Snyder's directing style – with one move in particular that we saw time and time again throughout his tenure at DC.

"The amount of slow motion in this movie is going to be insane," one person wrote.

"This movie’s gonna be filled with punches and way too many slow-motion sequences," said someone else.

"The fights are going to be in slow motion aren’t they," wrote one fan.

"Just the number of slow-mo shots of the action in the octagon is going to be insane," another person tweeted.

Dramatic slow-motion shot or not, the man knows his way around an action sequence – and we will be seated.

Brawler does not yet have a release date. For more, check out our list of the most exciting upcoming movies in 2025 and beyond.

<![CDATA[ James Gunn calls Milly Alcock "indomitable" as he shares new look from the Supergirl film set ]]> Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is flying to cinemas next year, and we just got a new look at star Milly Alcock during filming. Unfortunately, it's not an official still from the film or a superhero suit reveal, but it's getting us excited for what's in store for the upcoming DCU movie.

Last January, DC boss James Gunn shared a first look of Supergirl, which showed Alcock from behind and seated in a director's chair with the Supergirl logo on it. Now, to celebrate Supergirl's anniversary, Gunn has paid tribute to the legendary comic-book character while teasing the new movie.

"Today we celebrate #Supergirl and all her various incarnations. Can’t wait for you to see the latest version, portrayed by the indomitable @millyalcock, in June 2026," he wrote on X, sharing a picture of Alcock holding the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic.

Set to adapt Tom King's Woman of Tomorrow comic miniseries, the film will see Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin, seeking revenge against Krem, the man who brutally murdered her father.

Directed by Craig Gillespie. it will mark the second film in Gunn and Peter Safran's new DCU, with Superman hitting theaters on July 11. In fact, Milly Alcock is set debut for the first time in Superman ahead of her solo film next year, but we don't know if the character will be part of the main story or she will just have a cameo.

Along with the House of the Dragon star, the cast of Supergirl includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother. Former Aquaman star Jason Momoa is changing roles for this movie too, as he is set to make an appearance as Lobo.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is arriving in cinemas on June 26, 2026. For more, check out our guides to DCU Chapter One and upcoming superhero movies.

<![CDATA[ Over a year after it was axed, Coyote Vs. Acme is finally coming to theaters after getting a new lease on life from Hellboy studio ]]> After a long battle to get to the screen, including being outright canceled as a tax write-off for Warner Bros., the new Looney Tunes movie Coyote Vs. Acme is finally coming to theaters thanks to a deal between Warners and distributor Ketchup Entertainment, which has acquired the rights to release the film.

The movie, which stars John Cena among many other big names, was put on ice back in 2023 as part of a wave of cancelations in which Warner Bros. shelved films that were complete or near completion, including a Batgirl film that was reportedly nearly done.

Coyote Vs. Acme tells the raucous tale of Wile E. Coyote trying to sue the Acme Corporation, who provides all of Wile E. Coyote's wacky inventions that more often than not blow up in his face while trying to catch the ever elusive Roadrunner.

"Directed by Dave Green, Coyote Vs. Acme features a stellar cast, including Will Forte, John Cena, Lana Condor and Tone Bell," reads the official description. "The film centers on Wile E. Coyote as he takes legal action against the Acme Corporation for the countless faulty products that have hindered his relentless pursuit of the Road Runner. Coyote Vs. Acme is produced by Chris deFaria and James Gunn with a screenplay by Samy Burch."

Ketchup Entertainment is perhaps best known for its 2024 reboot film Hellboy: The Crooked Man.

"We're thrilled to have made a deal with Warner Bros. Pictures to bring this film to audiences worldwide," says Gareth West, CEO of Ketchup Entertainment. "Coyote Vs. Acme is a perfect blend of nostalgia and modern storytelling, capturing the essence of the beloved Looney Tunes characters while introducing them to a new generation. We believe it will resonate with both longtime fans and newcomers alike."

Ketchup Entertainment has yet to announce a release date for Coyote Vs. Acme. Have a look at our upcoming movies list for other confirmed releases.

<![CDATA[ Jack Black weighs in on the amount of hate the first Minecraft Movie trailer got: "There's always so many people that are sensitive to everything you put out there" ]]> It's no secret that when the first Minecraft Movie trailer dropped last September, fans were a little worried about the film due to the uncanny valley-ness of the whole thing. However, despite the backlash that followed, star Jack Black and director Jared Hess have confessed that they never saw the negative reaction coming.

"I mean, I was surprised, because I loved the trailer. I was like, 'Oh, this is going to go over great,'" said Black to GamesRadar+. "And, you know, there's always so many people that are sensitive to everything you put out there."

Black, who plays Steve, a player character taken from Mojang Studios’ sandbox game, added that the whole ordeal shook him, as he thought the trailer looked good. "I love the movie, but now I'm like, I don't know. Let's see what everyone else thinks, because I don't trust myself anymore."

After the teaser’s release, viewers had a lot of concerns over the clip, from the cast floating on a CGI background due to unfinished VFX editing, to the animals we know and love from the Minecraft game looking a little too fleshy – and don’t even mention that nightmarish sheep. However, Hess says that he thinks the negative reaction came from a lack of context and viewers perhaps not getting the tone of the movie, just as people didn't 'get' his 2004 flick Napoleon Dynamite at first.

"I think everybody was concerned. But we also knew that there was a lot of stuff in that teaser that was out of context," said the director. "There were so many details out of context, and we learned from it." Hess adds that this spurred the team to release a whole stack of new trailers leading up to A Minecraft Movie’s April release to showcase "the tone of what this movie is and really what the movie is all about."

However, Hess hasn't let this "hiccup," as he calls it, get him down. "We always had confidence in the film that we were making, just because we, you know, we've been testing it, and just the reaction that we had from die-hard Minecraft fans was amazing," added Hess. "Now we're just at this amazing point where being able to share the film with everybody has just been incredible."

A Minecraft Movie follows four humans (Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Hansen, and Emma Myers) as they get sucked into a strange block filled universe and have to rely on a strange crafter named Steve in order to find their way home. The highly anticipated upcoming video game movie also stars Jennifer Coolidge.

<![CDATA[ Marvel fans are desperate for Doctor Doom to face off against Thanos in Avengers: Doomsday ]]> With Avengers: Doomsday only a year or so away from hitting our screens, Marvel fans are keen to see one particular battle in the new duo of Avengers movies – Thanos versus Doctor Doom.

"The only thing I want to see happen in Doomsday," one fan wrote on Reddit, alongside a comic book panel that sees Doom make short work of Thanos without the power of the Infinity Gauntlet.

"It would be an incredible scene to see Thanos teaming with the Avengers," another replied. "We are trained to think Thanos is one of the strongest beings, and it’s always compelling to see the heroes teaming with their villain. Based on Thanos prior appearances, we are expecting a fair fight only for this to happen."

Others think it's more likely to happen in Doomsday's sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, based on the way things go in the comics with the evolution of Doom's power. "Not in Doomsday, but Secret Wars. Doomsday should be Doom’s rise to power and ends with him winning and becoming God-Emperor," someone else replied.

"A variant (lifeboat saved) Thanos would see usurping God Emperor Doom’s power as a potential source of Infinity Gauntlet power. So they duke it out which would then be a cinematic reversal of the actors battle in Infinity War."

However, not everyone is as sold on the idea of the two big bads facing off against each other. "Why would you want Thanos back? Don’t you think death has too little meaning already with the whole multiverse?" said one fan. "Bring Thanos back and the previous movies lose all their meaning."

Avengers: Doomsday will see the Russos back in the directors' chairs, and the movie's cast list was recently revealed in a five-hour live stream (although there may still be more to come…). Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom, and he'll be joined by plenty of familiar faces, including the Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts, and even a few X-Men.

Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on May 7, 2027. In the meantime, get up to speed with our guide to all the other upcoming superhero movies on the way from Marvel and DC.

<![CDATA[ Heat director Michael Mann says the first draft of his sequel script is finished and handed in to Warner Bros. ]]> Heat 2 is one step closer to hitting our screens. The movie has been in the works since April 2023, but director Michael Mann has revealed that he's now finished the first draft of the script.

"I just finished the screenplay and handed in the first draft," Mann said in a new interview with Vulture. "In this case it was Warner Brothers. Any more than that, I can’t talk about. But it’s an exciting project."

No official casting announcements have been made yet, but the rumor mill has been in overdrive since the movie was announced. Reports say Adam Driver is playing career thief Neil McCauley, the character played by Robert De Niro in the original film, while Austin Butler is rumored to be taking on Val Kilmer's role as McCauley's right-hand man Chris Shiherlis.

The new movie will be based on the novel Mann co-wrote with Meg Gardiner, released in 2022, that acts as both a prequel and a sequel to the 1995 crime drama about the cat-and-mouse chase between McCauley and Al Pacino's LAPD detective Vincent Hanna. Alternating between two timelines, the novel tells the story of everything that happens to the movie's principal characters before and after the events of Heat.

""It was a thrill to write it, because I got to go off on some tangents that you would never be able to do when making a motion picture," Mann told GamesRadar+ back in 2023.

<![CDATA[ 22 years after playing Nightcrawler, X-Men star Alan Cumming reacts to Avengers: Doomsday casting news in the most iconic way ]]> X-Men star Alan Cumming has shown the world that he’s still got the moves 22 years later as he prepares to reprise his role as Nightcrawler following Avengers: Doomsday casting news.

Days after Marvel released a huge chunk of the Doomsday cast list, star Cumming has taken to Instagram to share his reaction. In the video captioned "Never say never," Cumming jumps onto a set of stairs, striking his signature Nightcrawler pose. All that’s missing now is his tail. Check out the video below.

Cumming’s casting in Avengers: Doomsday, which was announced during the 5 hour long livestream which took place on March 26, came as a complete shock to Marvel fans as the star hasn't suited up as Kurt Wagner aka Nightcrawler since the 2003 movie X2: X-Men United. The star never returned as the Mutant again, until now.

Nightcrawler, first introduced in the Giant-Size X-Men comic in May 1975, is a dark blue-skinned mutant with the ability to teleport to any known location. He also possesses superhuman reflexes and agility, and has sharp teeth and a pointed tail. The character has appeared once more in the X-Men series, in the 2016 flick X-Men: Apocalypse, played by Kodi Smit-McPhee.

However, Cumming is not the only X-Men star to be cast in Avengers 5, as four more original stars have also joined the Marvel Phase 6 project. Patrick Stewart will return as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Channing Tatum as Gambit, and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique. This has left fans wondering if Doomsday could include an Avengers vs X-Men side storyline, however, our writer is concerned this could mean the MCU is killing off our favorite Mutants for good.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on May 1, 2026. For more, check out our guide on how to watch the Marvel movies in order, or keep up with upcoming Marvel movies.

<![CDATA[ Helen Mirren doesn't want to see a female James Bond because the character is "born out of profound sexism" ]]> Helen Mirren has never been a big fan of the James Bond franchise, and she doesn't like the idea of a female version of 007 either. The Oscar-winning actress was asked in a recent interview how she feels about the news that Amazon now has full creative control over James Bond, and Mirren was brutally honest.

"The whole series of James Bond, it was not my thing. It really wasn't. I never liked James Bond. I never liked the way women were in James Bond," she said during an interview with The Standard, where she opposed to the idea of a female Bond.

"The whole concept of James Bond is drenched and born out of profound sexism. Women have always been a major and incredibly important part of the Secret Service, they always have been. And very brave. If you hear about what women did in the French Resistance, they're amazingly, unbelievably courageous. So I would tell real stories about extraordinary women who've worked in that world," Mirren suggested.

The actress might not be a fan of the action saga, but she has high praise for former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan, her co-star in the new Paramount Plus crime series MobLand. "I'm a huge fan of Pierce Brosnan, I mean massive fan. Obviously, he's gorgeous and everything. And I think he's fabulous in MobLand, but he also happens to be one of the nicest people you'll ever have the pleasure to work with," she said.

Other past James Bond actors include Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and most recently Daniel Craig, who was last seen in 2021's No Time To Die.

With the beloved franchise now entering a new American era with Amazon, it remains to be seen how female characters keep evolving in the story. It seems unlikely, however, that an actress will take on agent 007 any time soon, as it was recently reported that Amazon is looking to continue the tradition of casting a British man.

Producers David Heyman and Amy Pascal are now in talks to develop a new James Bond movie, although nothing can be made official until the transaction with outgoing producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson is wrapped up.

In the meantime, check out our list of all upcoming movies in 2025 and beyond.

<![CDATA[ A Minecraft Movie lands extremely positive first reactions: "A video game movie with Napoleon Dynamite DNA" ]]> The first reactions for A Minecraft Movie are here – and they are unexpectedly positive. Some critics are calling it an "insanely bonkers", "over the top" and "genuinely fun" adaptation of the famous video game, drawing comparisons between the story and iconic films like Jumanji and Napoleon Dynamite.

"The #MinecraftMovie is some of the hardest I’ve laughed in a theater in a while. It refuses to take itself seriously which allows for a lot of hilarious moments. Fun in ways I wasn’t expecting," said writer Jordan Maison after the social embargo was lifted.

"Welp! I really liked the weird little gem that is A Minecraft Movie. Assumed I was outside the target demo, but with the Jared Hess of it all, it delivered something sharp, offbeat, and genuinely fun. A video game movie with Napoleon Dynamite DNA," described ScreenRant's Ash Crossan.

"The Minecraft Movie works in every possible way. Hilariously charming and the ideal family film! Jack Black and Jason Momoa are at peak insanity here with some of my favorite performances from them in years. Color me shocked but this is a big recommendation," said EJ Moreno from Flickering Myth.

"#MinecraftMovie is INSANELY BONKERS and is 100% what you'd expect in *this* big-screen MINECRAFT movie. Jack Black and Jason Momoa carry the comedy and its Jumanji-esque story. Visuals are perfectly translated and it's got some fun references from the game (and cameos) too!", wrote entertainment writer Chris Gallardo.

"#Minecraftmovie is destined to be a cult classic just as Napoleon Dynamite & Nacho Libre have become. Jared Hess infuses his zany, weird, over the top, random, stupid, & overall dumb creativeness into Minecraft. It might not be a good movie… but it’s a fun movie," added critic Zach Pope.

Not everyone was charmed by the film, however, with some critics slamming the script and the story.

"A MINECRAFT MOVIE is easily the worst movie I have seen in years. Not one iota of it is entertaining aside from Jennifer Coolidge, whose back must be breaking from having to hold up this mess. Appalling storyline and script, if you can call them that", said Jasmine Valentine from Dexerto.

Based on the best-selling video game of all time, A Minecraft Movie follows a ragtag group of humans struggling with problems in their everyday lives who find themselves transported to a strange, cubic world. The unlikely team must go on a magical quest if they ever want to get back home, but getting to grips with their surroundings may be easier said than done. The cast includes Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Coolidge, Matt Berry, and Jemaine Clement.

The movie's director, Napoleon Dynamite helmer Jared Hess, recently confirmed that the film isn't canon. "We’re not the official story," he told Variety. "We’re not canonizing anything. We’re just one of a zillion stories."

A Minecraft Movie arrives in theaters on April 4. For more viewing inspiration, check out our guide to the other upcoming video game movies on the way in 2025 and beyond.

<![CDATA[ The Black Phone writer and director are prepping for Siberian-set horror Road of Bones ]]> Doctor Strange and The Black Phone director Scott Derrickson is co-writing with screenwriter C. Robert Cargill another spine-chilling (heavy on the 'chilling') terror, Road of Bones. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will adapt the 2022 horror novel of the same name, which focuses on an actual location in Siberia steeped in folklore and terror.

The original book written by Christopher Golden, follows a historian who heads to Siberia on the Kolyma Highway, a road paved in a dark history surrounding its makers. Prisoners laid the 2000 km road during the Stalinist Soviet Union era, but due to permafrost, thousands of inmates died on the job, resulting in the road actually being made over them in an effort to cover it up. The unfortunate historian who dares to go out on the highway is greeted by unfathomable horrors and at risk of being stuck on the road forever, forgotten like all the rest.

It certainly sounds like a perfect fit for the pair that have been putting fear in audiences for some time now. While Apple TV Plus' The Gorge didn't raise pulses too much, their Ethan Hawke-starring horror The Black Phone certainly did the trick, so much so that a sequel was greenlit and set for release this year on October 17.

Speaking about the film, Derrickson told GamesRadar+, "The main difference is that it's a high school coming of age movie, in the same way that the original movie was a middle school coming of age movie, but those are two very different sorts of things." Derrickson broke down the differences, adding, "You know, a high school coming-of-age movie demands more. It has to be more visceral. It has to be, I think, more graphic, scarier." We'll see what happens when the phone gets picked up again later this year. In the meantime, check out upcoming horrors worth keeping an eye out for this year here.

<![CDATA[ The Legend of Zelda movie and Sonic 4 are game for competition with both set for release a week apart ]]> Heroes of Hyrule and high-speed hedgehogs will be facing off against one another a few years from now, following the news that the recently announced adaptation of The Legend of Zelda will be hitting theaters a week after Sonic returns for his fourth big-screen outing. The clash of calendars has been verified after it was finally announced last week that The Legend of Zelda was given a release date of March 26, 2027, with the blue blur getting ahead of Link's debut (naturally), penciling in the date of March 19 for Sonic 4.

Should neither project change plans, it'll mark a monumental week for gamers who will see two absolute icons battle it out at the box office. Could we have a new Barbenheimer on the cards? What's the best option? Zonic? Selda? Choose your fighter, folks.

The only accurate detail we know about Sonic 4 is that the movie will involve Amy Rose and an army of Metal Sonics on the rise to take down our prickly protagonist, voiced by Ben Schwartz. While there are no confirmed cast members just yet, you can guarantee that Schwartz, along with James Marsden, Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Tails, Idris Elba as Knuckles and Keanu Reeves as Shadow will be back for more top-speed thrills, spills and ring collecting. However, one cast member still a potential flight risk is Jim Carrey, who promised he would retire after Sonic the Hedgehog 2 only to return for thirds. It made for a wise choice, given that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is now his highest-grossing movie and a win for the actor, who confessed that he returned to screens simply because he needed the money.

But while the Sonic team awaits confirmation from Carrey, details regarding The Legend of Zelda are even scarcer. The only name set on the project is Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball, who has teased some plans he has in place for bringing that world to life. Speaking in 2024 about the project, Ball said, "I have this awesome idea. I’ve been thinking about it for a long freakin’ time, of how cool a Zelda movie would be... I want to fulfill people’s greatest desires," he explained. "I know it’s important, this [Zelda] franchise, to people, and I want it to be a serious movie. A real movie that can give people an escape. That’s the thing I want to try to create – it’s got to feel like something real. Something serious and cool but fun and whimsical."

Of course, there's a long way until 2027, at which point either project could budge to avoid the heat of the other. For now, press pause, and while you're at it, check out our picks for 10 of the best video game movies here.

<![CDATA[ Bill Murray regrets not working with one director in his illustrious career: “It’s one of the few regrets I have is that I didn’t do it." ]]> He might be a comedy icon, but even the legendary Bill Murray has collaborations he wished he'd gone through with. While appearing on The Howard Stern Show, the star of gems such as Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day revealed that Clint Eastwood was a filmmaker he never got to pair up with and still regrets not doing so.

The team-up almost happened way back when. Murray explained that following his side-splitting stint in the military with Stripes, he set Eastwood in his sights next. “I was like, I got to call this guy. So I called him out of the blue, and he said, ‘Would you ever want to do another service comedy?’ Because I just made Stripes and he had this great idea for an enormous Navy thing,” Murray recalled. Unfortunately, it was the pitch that Eastwood made that put the SNL legend off the idea.

“And when he said, ‘Would you ever want to do another service comedy,’ like jeez, ‘Would I become like Abbott and Costello?’ I had to do like military movies? And I said, ‘Well, God, I guess maybe I shouldn’t.’” It was a choice Murray confesses he looked back on with a very different point of view. “It’s one of the few regrets I have is that I didn’t do it. Because it was a big-scale thing, and I would have gotten a great – I don’t know if I’d have gotten a great death scene, it was more of a comedy, that one – but it was great,” he explained. “He had access to World War II boats and he could have like made a flotilla and stuff, and there was some cool stuff in it.”

According to Murray, even now, “When I see him, I’m like: ‘I’m sorry, I wish I’d done that Clint, I’m really sorry.’ He’s certainly well over it. He’s a very resilient fella.” All that can be done now is to mark this one up as a movie that could've been. For now, check out Bill Murray's best movies here, none of which contain Clint Eastwood

<![CDATA[ Ryan Coogler promises "I’ve got every intention of working" with Denzel Washington on Black Panther 3 ]]> The world might be buzzing for Avengers: Doomsday following that exceptionally long livestream, so it's easy to forget that other chapters of the MCU are in the pipeline, including Ryan Coogler's third trip back to Wakanda for Black Panther 3. While plot details are unconfirmed, one big highlight is that the threequel will mark the arrival of Denzel Washington, who is all but officially confirmed to be venturing into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to Coogler, it's a collaboration that's been a long time coming.

While appearing on the Nightcap podcast, “I’ve been dying to work with Denzel,” Coogler said. “I’m hoping we can make that happen. I’ve got every intention of working with him on that movie. As long as he’s interested, man, it’s going to happen," the director assured. "He’s a living legend and a great mentor for so many of us. He’s all about looking out for us now.“

Black Panther 3 might be a topic of conversation, but nothing has even been made official on the MCU calendar. Besides Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, the only other confirmed film that has its wheels turning (well, webs) is Spider-Man 4, with its latest update being that Sadie Sink has joined the cast in an unspecified role.

As for Washington's involvement in the unconfirmed chapter, that news slipped from the actor himself, who casually dropped the bombshell last November. Since then, the actor told Variety that he'd spoken with Coogler about the accidental break-in information. “I called him and apologized for talking about the movie, and right there sitting with him was his beautiful wife. He’s still Ryan, humble and full of ideas. Whatever he writes, I’ll read,” Washington explained.

What part that will be is unknown. Whatever it will be could help or hinder Letitia Wright's Shuri, who took on the role of the new protector of her kingdom in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. For now, Coogler still has the upcoming vampire film Sinners on his schedule, which will see Michael B. Jordan fighting the undead on April 18.

<![CDATA[ Reacher star is being fan-cast as the MCU version of Tom Hardy's fan-favorite Spider-Man character ]]> He might be up for playing Batman for free, but fans have deemed Reacher star Alan Ritchson a better fit for the black suit that once belonged to Spider-Man. Over on Reddit, one fan threw Ritchson's name into the ring for taking on Eddie Brock, aka Venom, should a different iteration of the character ever appear in the MCU. It didn't take long for others to wholeheartedly agree with the option.

The original post that has since been removed got a lot of positive feedback with many agreeing he'd made a better Lethal Protector than he would a Caped Crusader. One fan said, "Now this is a much more reasonable casting choice than Batman. At least physically, he’s exactly what I’d expect Brock to look like," they explained. "Personality-wise, he’d do better as an overconfident military type who thinks he’s smarter than he is. Brock seemed to have self awareness of what he is that Ritchson doesn’t."

Another fan argued that while he would be a good pick to join Venom, he'd be better suited as a different host than Eddie Brock. "You're on the right track. I think he'd be a Great Venom host. I just don't know if agree with Eddie. He'd be good at it. But considering Reacher, I genuinely think he'd be better as Flash Thompson. Agent Venom."

In the comics, Peter Parker's longtime school bully, Flash Thompson (played in the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies by Tony Revolori), ended up getting bonded to the symbiote and becoming a government agent. Besides having all the perks of the alien enhancement, Flash was armed to the teeth. The only setback was that he could only stay bonded to the symbiote for 48 hours, at risk of the alien taking over Thompson completely.

Either way, it doesn't look like Venom of any iteration will be appearing in the MCU any time soon following Tom Hardy's goodbye to the character in Venom: The Last Dance, but Ritchson would be a wonderful 'what if?' Speaking of The Last Dance, check out our list of 10 best Venom comics worth your time here.

<![CDATA[ This Avengers: Doomsday theory suggests that X-Men Days of Future Past may have created Robert Downey Jr.'s Doom ]]> Following Marvel's furniture-focused livestream, which revealed some big cast names headed for Avengers: Doomsday, all manner of theories have flooded onto the internet in an effort to anticipate how Robert Downey Jr.'s Latverian lunatic in a different kind of armor will impact the MCU.

One grim theory suggests that the order in which the cast is revealed may indicate the order in which they will die in the film, with Doctor Doom defeating the God of Thunder first and demonstrating just how powerful a threat he poses to our heroes. However, a new theory from Screen Rant's Liam T. Crowley on X proposes an idea regarding the appearances of some of the original X-Men cast, including Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, Ian McKellen, and Alan Cumming, which may stem from the aftermath of the beloved comic book movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past. On X, Crowley wrote "Grammer. Stewart. McKellen. Cumming (ha). gotta be the fox universe. the one that reversed the sentinels shit. 'you mess with time it tends to mess back.' did reversing the events of days of future past create downey doom?? stay with me now!!"

At the end of the 2014 film, the joint effort from mutants across time stopped the extinction of their kind while also resetting the timeline to a brighter future for the world's Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). In doing so, he's reunited the likes of Cyclops (James Marsden), Jean Grey (Famke Janssen), Beast (Grammer), and Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart). A job well done, right? Well, what if, according to Crowley, the rectifying of time brought about Downey's approaching Doom, who makes his way across realities into the MCU? As Tony said in Avengers: Endgame, "When you mess with time, it tends to mess back," which could include the repercussions of fixing the Days of Future Past timeline.

It would certainly be a clever way to cross over into both franchises and do so with an event that tampered with time long before the Avengers even got the idea. That being said, there's also a chance that these X-Men could all be different variants, just like how Deadpool & Wolverine homed a different variant of Logan (Hugh Jackman) from the one we spent 17 years with. All of these returning cast members could be playing different iterations of the characters we've known for decades (we already saw a Charles snuff it in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, after all), perhaps even the ones we've been reacquainted with in X-Men '97.

We'll have to wait and see which X-Men and other mutants we'll meet when Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on May 1, 2026. Also, keep tabs on every upcoming Marvel movie and TV show planned for the future here.

<![CDATA[ Superman star doesn't want to compare James Gunn's movie to Guardians of the Galaxy: "It’s going to be its own thing" ]]> Death of a Unicorn and former Barry star Anthony Carrigan has shared some thoughts on his next big project this year—James Gunn's Superman—and one thing he's making sure not to do is compare it to the director's other works, which starred a cybernetically modified raccoon and a talking tree. Crammed with a star-studded cast and a whole host of DC heroes behind the titular fella in the long red cape (David Corenswet), Carrigan will play Metamorpho, who was briefly seen in the teaser trailer for the upcoming comic book movie.

Naturally keeping quiet about his part in Superman's story, he did hint to The Hollywood Reporter that while it might not be similar to the adventures of Star-Lord and his team, the great elements from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies might still be present. “I am hesitant to liken it to Guardians, but I do think that [Superman] has the same heart and intelligence. That’s James’ trademark," explained Carrigan. "But I think it’s going to be its own thing entirely. The process of working on it was such a special one, and the whole cast was on board with bringing something really special to it. So, hopefully, that’s conveyed onscreen.”

After breaking down the trailer, it was clear that Gunn's first introduction to the Man of Steel was a packed-out one with the appearance of Green Lantern Guy Gardener (Nathan Fillion), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) all joining in on the action. Metamorpho, however, was only shown in a stunning close-up with Carrigan hidden under prosthetics, displaying the superhero's incredible capabilities.

Making his debut in 1965, Metamorpho, also known as Rex Mason, can adapt his body to any elements he chooses. This allows him to stretch, solidify, or evaporate at will, making him an invaluable asset to the Justice League that is protecting the world at this point in Superman's potential solo career. See how he and the rest of the cast handle things when Superman goes up, up, and away into theaters on July 11, 2025. <![CDATA[ New movie from Ex Machina director lands more than 90% on Rotten Tomatoes with reviews calling it "relentless" and "gruelling" ]]> Writer and director Alex Garland maintains his impressive record of checking critics' boxes following the reception of his hard-hitting movie Warfare, which at the time of writing has reached 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Based on the real-life experiences of former U.S. Navy SEAL Ray Mendoza, who co-wrote and co-directed the film, Warfare follows in real time a Navy SEAL platoon venturing through insurgent territory and the relentless, nerve-shredding operation that unfolds there. Boasting a star-studded cast that includes Cosmo Jarvis (Shōgun), Will Poulter (The Bear), Joseph Quinn (Fantastic Four), and Noah Centineo (The Recruit), the film has been praised for its immense realism and relentless depiction of soldiers in battle, following on from his already hard-hitting drama, Civil War.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Garland is working in peak form and with dazzling technical command in what’s arguably his best film since his debut, Ex Machina." The Times says, "This is a movie that’s as difficult to watch as it is to forget. It’s a sensory blitz, a percussive nightmare, and a relentless assault on the soul." Meanwhile, MovieWeb says, "Warfare is a nuts-and-bolts account of ferocious combat, bloody, brutal, and terrifying. It is a visceral cinematic experience that will absolutely floor you."

But while the film's visuals might play like an endurance test for some, others have highlighted the movie's plot or lack thereof. EJ Moreno said, "So many elements work, but it almost crumbles under its bare-bones script. It still comes together with some solid craftsmanship and powerful acting." While FandomWire admitted, "Warfare is an interesting experiment — and one that unquestionably has its heart in the right place — but it doesn’t all work."

Minor nitpicks aside, it's another impressive feat for Garland, who still has one more thing to check off his to-do list this year. Arriving on June 20 this year is the long-anticipated sequel, 28 Years Later, which reunites him with 28 Days Later director Danny Boyle, as they venture back to the hellish rage-infected world they introduced us to in 2002. Written by Garland, the film stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes. Hopes are high that the dynamic duo of a virus-riddled dystopia has delivered the goods once more. As for Warfare, you can get locked and loaded for that on April 11, and during prep time, you can check out our list of the 30 best war movies of all time.

<![CDATA[ Rooney Mara's new kitchen drama that's being called "The Bear on steroids" is a tense, darkly funny take on the American dream ]]> Kitchen dramas are all the rage (literally). Angry chefs have graced our screens to critical acclaim in the likes of The Bear and Boiling Point, but new movie La Cocina is perhaps the one of the bleakest recent portrayals of restaurant work.

Directed by Mexican filmmaker Alonso Ruizpalacios and based on British playwright Arnold Wesker's 1957 play The Kitchen, La Cocina takes place almost entirely within the confines of The Grill, a tourist restaurant in Times Square, over the course of one day.

The restaurant has a large staff, both front and back of house, but the movie revolves mainly around Pedro (Raúl Briones Carmona), an undocumented Mexican chef, Julia (Rooney Mara), a pregnant waitress who's having an affair with Pedro (and deciding whether or not to keep his baby), and Estela (Anna Diaz), a new arrival in both the kitchen and the US and a family friend of Pedro's. Alongside the personal dramas that the characters bring to work, there's also the issue of a missing $800 from one of the registers, and every employee is being grilled (no pun intended) until the culprit is found.

Disorganized chaos

Raúl Briones Carmona in La Cocina

What begins as organized chaos in The Grill quickly descends into plain ol' chaos once the lunch rush kicks off: the kitchen floods with Cherry Coke when the soda dispenser malfunctions, Pedro antagonizes racist chef Max, Estela struggles to find her feet, and new, older waitress Laura is picked on by male kitchen staff. Customers are angry with the wait staff, the wait staff are angry at the chefs, and the chefs are angry at everyone: everyone is at breaking point all the time. The pressure cooker metaphor for kitchen work might be a tired one, but it's the most accurate.

Big Screen Spotlight

Shining a light on the under-the-radar theatrical releases that you need to know about, with a new article every Friday

The focus is not on the food, but on the relationships (both good and bad) fostered between The Grill's four walls. Whatever fare is served there – burgers and pizzas, mostly – is thoroughly unremarkable; the only time we really get a proper glimpse of anything edible is when Pedro painstakingly prepares a sandwich for Julia before service commences, and the camera lingers on his hands in a way that makes it one of the most intimate scenes in the movie.

The camera is constantly moving, mostly around the kitchen, and occasionally into the restaurant or out into an alleyway where employees take their smoke breaks. When we do follow characters outdoors, it's so quiet and peaceful in comparison to inside – ironic, considering we're in the bustling tourist hub of New York City.

Now what?

Rooney Mara in La Cocina

In these quieter parts of the movie (moments stolen by the chefs in the alleyway, and between Julia and Pedro in the walk-in), Pedro is revealed to be very preoccupied with the idea of dreams. The American dream, of course, has not amounted to much for anyone in the film, so these characters must cast their minds a little further afield.

The film opens with a quote from an essay by the American writer Henry David Thoreau: "Let us consider the way in which we spend our lives," the on-screen text reads. "This world is a place of business. What an infinite bustle! I am awaked almost every night by the panting of the locomotive. It interrupts my dreams." Pedro's coworkers, on the whole, keep their dreams simple, amidst the interruptions.

For Pedro, though, his ultimate fantasy is respect, something that The Grill's managerial staff don't tend to indulge their employees with. In one later scene, where Pedro is being questioned about the stolen money (which just so happens to be the exact amount Julia would need for an abortion) by manager Luis, a second-generation immigrant and self-identified American, he interrupts him to correct his Spanish. Given the context and what's at risk for Pedro, it's a futile gesture, but he can't help himself. If respect is off the table, he at least wants superiority, if only fleetingly.

"Now what?" the restaurant's head chef asks him in the movie's final moments, when tensions have reached a head, and it's a question that echoes throughout the film. At The Grill, workers are promised green cards that never materialise, staff share hopes and dreams that are just as elusive, and managerial improprieties are brushed under the carpet. Lives fall apart over the course of the shift documented in La Cocina, but it'll be business as usual the next morning.

La Cocina is out now in UK cinemas. For more on what to watch, check out the rest of our Big Screen Spotlight series.

<![CDATA[ Instead of leaking Avengers: Doomsday secrets, Paul Rudd has some choice words for his "emasculating" Ant-Man chair ]]> Fans who watched Marvel Studios' cast reveal livestream for Avengers: Doomsday were treated to a bit of an Easter egg when Paul Rudd's Ant-Man chair was unveiled, as it was much smaller than the rest of the normally sized cast chairs. But Rudd himself doesn't seem quite exactly sure how to feel about his tiny-sized chair, jokingly calling it "emasculating" in an appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

"I saw that. I saw the announcement," Rudd says in the interview, as Fallon pulls up a picture of Rudd's lil chair, much to Rudd's apparent bemusement. Fallon clarifies that Rudd got the small chair specifically because he plays the size-changing hero Ant-Man, to which Rudd dolefully quips "I hope so."

"I thought, oh that's clever, yes, I'm Ant-Man. But there's still a part of you that thinks it's a little emasculating to have a little tiny, tiny chair" Rudd laughs. "But at least finally one that will actually fit me when I sit down."

Here's the video, in which Fallon plies Rudd for any tidbits of information about what might be coming up in Avengers: Doomsday while Rudd does his best to stay mum about the details:

"They are very secretive. It's important. Clearly as we know, they never announce anything. You know, it's a major movie. You can't be frivolous with this kind of stuff. It's not like military secrets," Rudd quips. "So no, there's nothing I can tell you."

Marvel is indeed secretive about the details of its films, to the point where it's exceedingly likely that there are even still more unrevealed cast members for Avengers: Doomsday.

Avengers: Doomsday releases on May 1, 2026. While we wait, check out our guide to watching the Marvel movies in order or our breakdown of the Marvel timeline.

<![CDATA[ One of the best horror films of the 2010s, with a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes, is leaving Netflix in April ]]> Hold on to your heads horror fans, because we have some bad news for you: Ari Aster's famously terrifying debut feature film Hereditary is leaving Netflix in the US in April. If you've somehow not seen the film – which sits proudly on our list of the best Netflix horror movies – yet, then now's the time to rectify that before it leaves the streamer until who knows when.

Hereditary follows the Grahams, a seemingly average family living in Utah. In the wake of a sudden and horrifying tragedy, however, they start to fall apart – a situation that only gets worse when a mysterious woman named Joan infiltrates their lives. To say anything else about the movie would be to risk major spoilers, so let's just say that an already pitch black film gets somehow even darker and weirder from there, leading to a genuinely unnerving final act.

Hereditary was a huge critical and word of mouth hit when it was released in 2018, one that instantly put its writer and director Ari Aster on the movie map. We referred to it as "genuinely unsettling" in our five star review at the time. Seven years later it's safe to say that it's easily stands as one of the very best horror movies of the 2010s. Aster followed it up in 2019 with folk horror hit Midsommar, which only cemented his reputation as a major directorial talent.

Hereditary is streaming on Netflix US until April 14. If you're looking for more movies, check out our picks of the best movies on Netflix, which covers a wide range of genres including fantasy and sci-fi. We also have a new weekly feature that picks out the 10 best new shows and movies across all the major streamers.

<![CDATA[ A grim Marvel theory could explain why the Avengers: Doomsday cast was revealed in that order ]]> Marvel unveiled 27 cast members to announce that Avengers: Doomsday was in production. The reveal came over a five-hour-long livestream where a new chair was revealed about every 15 minutes, before Doctor Doom star Robert Downey Jr. made a brief on-screen cameo.

"It all leads to Doom," Marvel teased alongside the announcement, which contained everyone from OG X-Men stars to the casts of Thunderbolts* and Fantastic Four. However, not everyone was announced in the order we expected them to be.

For example, both the Thunderbolts* and Fantastic Four casts were split up, with multiple chairs in between them. Most notably, Sue Storm star Vanessa Kirby was the second name announced while Reed Richards actor Pedro Pascal was the second to last name confirmed.

Now, this could just be Marvel toying with us to try and leave us in suspense between chairs. However, this is the Russo brothers, who have been known for sneaking in Easter eggs wherever they can.

Some Reddit fans agree that they may be more than meets the eye here. "What if the order of the chairs was the order of the deaths," speculated one. "Alright listen to me. First, Doom killing Thor first and The God of Stories later would be cold as fuck. That explains why characters that have projects after Doomsday like Champions, Dr. Strange or Spider-Man aren't on here. That also explains why there is no Deadpool nor Wolverine."

They went on to suggest: "That would mean that Mr Fantastic and Doom would be the last confrontation of the movie, resulting in Reed dying." It's an interesting theory as some fans have been sharing their own thoughts on its potential.

"If that's the case.. Bucky and Sam gonna probably die together.. so poetic," replied one, while another suggested: "My personal theory was that the order of reveal was in order of screentime. Least to most, which would semi support your theory."

A fourth agreed, adding: "Wouldn't be surprised. I was curious about the order in which they revealed the cast because I don't see what makes Chris Hemsworth's Thor more relevant than some of the other characters to where he is announced first. You'd think Cap or Reed would be announced first, or the F4 together. This seems intentional."

This wasn't the only detail fans noticed in the reveal either as a play of light on the chairs led some to think they've spotted the Avengers and X-Men logo.

<![CDATA[ Dune 2 stars re-teaming for new movie described as "The Martian meets 127 Hours" from the director of an underrated recent horror film ]]> Josh Brolin is set to join his Dune 2 co-star Austin Butler in Whalefall, a new movie about a man who gets stuck inside a whale.

Per Deadline, "the film is described as The Martian meets 127 Hours, centering on a scuba diver in search of his deceased father’s remains who gets swallowed by an 80-foot, 60-ton sperm whale and has only one hour to escape before his oxygen runs out. After giving up on life, the young man is surprised to find a reason to live in the most dangerous and unlikely of places."

The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Daniel Kraus, and he's co-writing the script with director Brian Duffield. There aren't any details on who Brolin or Butler might be playing just yet.

Duffield's last time in the director's chair was for No One Will Save You, a sci-fi horror starring Kaitlyn Dever that Stephen King dubbed "truly unique" when it was quietly dropped on Hulu and Disney Plus back in 2023.

Brolin and Butler last shared the screen in Dune: Part 2, which was released in 2024. Brolin plays former House Atreides aide Gurney Halleck in Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's sci-fi epic, while Butler played the antagonistic Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen.

Next up for Brolin is Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, while Butler is set to star in Hereditary director Ari Aster's Western dark comedy Eddington.

Whalefall doesn't have a release date yet. For more viewing inspiration, get up to speed with this year's best upcoming movies with our guide to 2025's movie release dates at a glance.

<![CDATA[ Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey release date, cast, trailer, plot, and everything else we know ]]> Ever since director Christopher Nolan's last feature Oppenheimer took the world by storm, all eyes have been on what the filmmaker would be tackling next. And the answer – The Odyssey, an adaptation of Homer's epic poem, which is already shaping up to be one of our most anticipated upcoming movies.

Every feature Nolan makes is always something special, but given the scope of The Odyssey this just might be his all-time masterpiece. And that's saying something, given the incredibly high bar set by the likes of Oppenheimer and The Dark Knight. The adaptation really does have a lot to live up to, but Nolan is already at work assembling a stellar cast that will bring the epic to life.

Despite the scale, recently, one of these cast members said that Nolan is helming the movie "like an indie film, because he's not doing it by committee", adding that the filmmaker is "like an indie filmmaker, but with crazy money". Which is true, as just like with Oppenheimer, Universal Pictures is once again distributing, with The Odyssey set to be the most expensive movie of Nolan's career, with a budget of $250 million.

But what exactly can you expect from the upcoming feature? Well, thankfully for you, we've gathered everything we know so far about The Odyssey, including a release date, cast list, plot details, and plenty more news. That saves you from embarking on an epic journey like the one Odysseus will go on in the movie, as all you have to do is scroll down for all the info.

The Odyssey release date

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey has a set release date of July 17, 2026 – so get it in your diaries if you haven't already!

Because this is Nolan we are talking about, it will arrive exclusively in theaters worldwide during the summer blockbuster season and the best way to watch it is at an IMAX screen, especially since new IMAX technology was developed just for this movie.

The Odyssey cast

If you thought Nolan's previous film Oppenheimer featured a stacked cast, it turns out you have seen nothing yet.

The Odyssey sees an all-star cast come together to bring this epic story to the big screen, with many of Nolan's former collaborators returning including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Elliot Page. They will be joined by Hollywood A-listers including Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron.

Right now it is unclear which characters each cast member will be portraying aside from one – Damon will take on the lead role of Odysseus, the legendary Greek king whose journey we follow. This was confirmed via a first look image which showed Damon in costume looking ready for battle.

You can see the confirmed The Odyssey cast so far below:

 • Matt Damon – Odysseus
 • Tom Holland
 • Anne Hathaway
 • Zendaya
 • Lupita Nyong'o
 • Robert Pattinson
 • Charlize Theron
 • Jon Bernthal
 • Benny Safdie
 • John Leguizamo
 • Elliot Page
 • Himesh Patel
 • Bill Irwin
 • Samantha Morton
 • Mia Goth
 • Corey Hawkins
 • Cosmo Jarvis
 • Ryan Hurst

The Odyssey plot

If you haven't already guessed it from the title alone, The Odyssey will be based on Homer's epic ancient Greek poem of the same name.

One of the oldest surviving literary works having been written around the 8th or 7th century BC, The Odyssey tells the story of Greek hero Odysseus over the course of 24 books. It follows the king of an island known as Ithaca as he journeys home from Troy, following the decade-long Trojan War.

That homecoming journey also takes another 10 years, as Odysseus encounters many threats including several monsters after enraging the god Poseidon by blinding one of his Cyclops sons. Whilst Odysseus is absent during this journey, his wife Penelope and son Telemachus presume he is dead, leaving them to contend with several unruly suitors who are competing to be the former's new husband.

Over the years The Odyssey has been retold countless times so it will be interesting to see how Nolan interprets the classic story. However, one thing is for sure – it is set to be the director's most epic feature yet.

Is there a The Odyssey trailer?

Christopher Nolan with his Oscars for Oppenheimer

No, not yet! Currently, there's no trailer for The Odyssey. Although we have already had our first look image from the movie, it will probably be a while until we get a teaser for Christopher Nolan's next outing.

Even though shooting is currently underway, filming only began in February 2025, so there is still a way to go until there's enough footage for a trailer. If you look at what happened with Nolan's last movie, Oppenheimer, the first teaser for that released in July 2022, so a year before the film's July 2023 release date.

And so, with The Odyssey set for a July 2026 release date, we could be looking at July this year for the first trailer. Watch this space!

<![CDATA[ The Legend of Zelda live-action movie finally has a release date, Nintendo randomly confirms through its newly released app ]]> The live-action Legend of Zelda movie finally has a release date – and it was announced in the most atypical way.

Nintendo shared the news today via its newly launched mobile app that the film is set to hit theaters worldwide on March 26, 2027. Wes Ball, helmer of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and the Dylan O'Brien-led Maze Runner trilogy, is set to direct the upcoming film. The live-action, feature-length adaptation of everyone's favorite video game franchise was announced back in 2023.

The first Legend of Zelda game was released in 1986, with the newest game in the franchise, The Echoes of Wisdom, coming out in 2024. The series, set in the fantasy land of Hyrule, follows an elf-like, sword-wielding, matching-set-wearing hero named Link as he saves the fair and beautiful Princess Zelda from an evil demon king named Ganon.

A computer-animated Zelda movie was pitched back in 2007, but Nintendo allegedly said no due to the commercial failure of the 1993 live-action Super Mario Bros. movie (which really isn't that bad!). It wasn't until the enormous success of the 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie that the Legend of Zelda movie was finally greenlit.

As of right now, we don't have any casting announcements – though Hunter Schafer has been a popular fan cast for Princess Zelda. Machine Gun Kelly jokingly threw his hat in the ring for Link, but the rapper/actor is sadly just too tall.

<![CDATA[ Ridley Scott once pitched The Studio's Seth Rogen a Monopoly movie and well, it sounded great: "[We] were like, 'F***'" ]]> Seth Rogen says he's been pitched "every brand" movie from Hungry Hippos to Doritos – but it's Ridley Scott's epic Monopoly idea that he remembers most.

Speaking at Variety's Q&A for his new comedy series The Studio, the writer-director recalled the time he met with the filmmaker behind Gladiator and Alien. "He was going to direct the Monopoly movie, and me and Evan [Goldberg] went into his office and he said, 'Imagine a helicopter shot of Central Park,'" Rogen began. "'You're looking down on it from above. You pull up, you see all the buildings surrounding Central Park. What does it look like?' And then he said, 'A Monopoly board!' And were like, 'F**k, that's good.'"

Other pitches didn't go down quite so well with the duo... "I think there was a Hungry Hungry Hippos movie in development for a while," Rogen added. "I think we've been pitched every brand. I feel like there was a Doritos movie at some point. 'Kool-Aid' is not far off from what is actually floating around the halls of this place by any stretch of the imagination."

Monopoly game

Starring Rogen, Chase Sui Wonders, Ike Barinholtz, Kathryn Hahn, and Catherine O'Hara, The Studio follows a team of film producers, as they try to keep their struggling company Continental Studios afloat in a time of rapid social and economic change within the industry.

In the premiere, Rogen's studio executive Matt Remick – an outspoken hater of all the shallow, IP-based titles Hollywood is churning out nowadays – is told by Continental's new CEO that he'll be promoted to studio head if he greenlights a movie based on the Kool-Aid Man. Things get complicated, though, when Martin Scorsese approaches Matt about doing one last film, a drama centered on the Jonestown massacre, and Matt takes it upon himself to buy the script for 10 million dollars. The decision doesn't go down too well with the CEO and Matt is forced to backtrack on his deal, trying (and failing) to keep everyone sweet in the process.

While Scott's Monopoly project never properly made it onto the table, Margot Robbie is said to be developing a live-action take on the hugely popular board game following the success of Barbie. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson shared the news at CinemaCon back in April 2024.

The Studio is streaming now, with new episodes dropping every Wednesday. Already binged the first two? Check out our picks of the best Apple TV shows for some viewing inspiration.

<![CDATA[ Marvel fans think Avengers: Doomsday announcements sealed the fate of this Thunderbolts character once and for all ]]> Marvel may have just confirmed a popular Thunderbolts* fan theory, thanks to one omission from the Avengers: Doomsday cast and a new TV spot.

While Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, and Lewis Pullman have all been confirmed as cast members in the next Avengers movie, one name was notably absent: Olga Kurylenko, who plays Antonia Dreykov, AKA Taskmaster.

She's barely appeared in previously released teaser footage, despite being a prominent part of the movie's poster, which has made fans theorize that she'll die pretty early on in the film. Now, though, one Reddit user has pointed out that she's seemingly been edited out of a shot of the Thunderbolts team in a new TV spot.

"I kinda think she’s gonna just fuck off as soon as anything starts going wrong," suggested another user. "I agree. Everyone wants her to be more like comics Taskmaster, and that guy would get the hell out of there if he had to fight a serious villain," someone else replied.

"They did the character and the actress dirty," another fan posted. "Why include her in the first place? Seems like she's only there as cannon fodder; just a character to kill off so they can up the stakes."

While some fans think it's a bad thing that the rest of the Thunderbolts' survival has pretty much been guaranteed now we know they'll appear in Doomsday, others think it's positive.

"It’s honestly a good thing most of the team seemingly survives, Marvel is remembering they have to use their characters more than once every 4 years to keep them relevant in the eyes of non-hardcore fans," wrote someone else. "We don’t want an Avengers movie where the general audience doesn’t recognize half the cast. Though I think the T-Bolts will end up mostly being death fodder for Doom. Even Sentry might get taken out somehow to prove how strong Doom is."

Thunderbolts* arrives on the big screen on May 2 as the final installment in Marvel Phase 5. For more, check out our guide to the other upcoming superhero movies still to come in 2025 and beyond.

<![CDATA[ New Avatar movie (not that one) adds Invincible star Steven Yeun in mystery role alongside Dave Bautista ]]> Aang's next film just got some more star power. Steven Yeun, star of The Walking Dead and Invincible, will play a role in an upcoming movie set in the universe of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

His addition to the animated feature comes from Variety, and right now details are limited. It's unknown who he's voicing, or even what nation they might come from. Fans of The Last Airbender may remember Yeun already had a role in the franchise, portraying Wan, the first Avatar, in The Legend of Korra.

In theory, he could be reprising that character, but we're speculating here. The film is currently called Aang: The Last Airbender (since Avatar now happens to be taken by another, much bigger franchise), and it's being directed by Lauren Montgomery with a release window of 2026. It's a sequel, following the characters years after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

He joins a strong cast so far, with Eric Nam as Aang, Jessica Matten as Katara, Dionne Quan as Toph Beifong, Román Zaragoza as Sokka, and Dave Bautista as the unnamed villain. It's the second continuation of the Avatar mythos we've seen in recent years.

Netflix kicked off a live-action remake of the animated show in 2024, with two more seasons now in production. Meanwhile, Aang: The Last Airbender is coming from Nickelodeon and Paramount, and it's being produced by franchise co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino.

Konietzko and DiMartino were involved in Netflix's series before leaving in 2020 due to creative differences, leading to them striking a deal with Nickelodeon. It's all a bit messy, but the bottom line is, this movie with Yeun has the co-creators involved so it's in safe hands.

Besides his work on Invincible, Yeun was recently in Mickey 17 with Robert Pattinson, and the Netflix show Beef. You can check out when you might hear his voice again on the superhero side of things in our guide to Invincible season 4.

<![CDATA[ The classic Fox X-Men are returning in Avengers: Doomsday, and I've got a really bad feeling about this ]]> Marvel Studios' first wave of cast reveals for Avengers: Doomsday included several of the OG Fox X-Men, including Kelsey Grammar as Beast, James Marsden as Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, and even Ian McKellen as Magneto, along with the addition of Channing Tatum's Gambit.

As much as that's a pleasant surprise - especially Ian McKellen getting his victory lap as Magneto alongside Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier - it's got me fearful that we're being set up for a gut-wrenching Avengers: Doomsday rug-pull in which we'll be forced to watch an entire universe of heroes die before our very eyes.

But which one? Is Marvel setting up the death of the Fox X-Men Universe, or the MCU? It's not the wildest question to ask, and the answer could wind up shocking viewers to the core.

Let's look at the established facts from the MCU so far, along with the comic book precedent that has me shaking in my boots that the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it could be about to meet its final doom.

The Beast in the post-credits scene of The Marvels

Given the inclusion of Kelsey Grammar's Beast and Patrick Stewart's Professor X, it seems pretty safe to assume they'll be picking up from the post-credits scene of The Marvels, in which the Monica Rambeau of the 616 Universe wakes up in an alternate reality populated by several classic X-Men.

It's also all but guaranteed that Avengers: Doomsday will center on an Incursion - a collision between two realities that leaves one of them destroyed. An Incursion between the 616 and another reality was teased way back in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, with further mentions coming as recently as the post-credits stinger of Captain America: Brave New World, in which Samuel Sterns cryptically warns Sam Wilson that there is another challenge ahead, that may involve fighting people from another world.

"We share the same world don't we, this world that you will die to save. It is coming. I've seen it in in the probabilities, plain as day," he states. "All you heroes protecting this world, you think you are the only ones? You think this is the only world? We'll see what happens when you have to protect this place from the others."

This leads to the likely conclusion that, whatever happens when they come together, the MCU and the universe of the classic Fox X-Men are about to collide. There are even clues that the story will be less of a team-up, and more of a winner-takes-all Avengers Vs. X-Men brawl - something that has happened plenty of times in comic books, especially 2012's Avengers Vs. X-Men event comic - with the fate of their respective realities hanging in the balance.

It may be easy to assume that the 616 will come out on top, but with directors Joe and Anthony Russo calling Avengers: Doomsday and its sequel Avengers: Secret Wars a "new beginning" for the MCU, it's all too possible that the world we've been watching develop since 2008 will truly end in 2026, only to be relaunched by the end of Secret Wars. That would put the launch of a nu-MCU right around 2028, the 20th anniversary of the release of Iron Man, which put the MCU in motion.

Secret Wars art by Alex Ross

If that seems far-fetched, the fact that the directors are invoking the comic book event Secret Wars for what will be the sixth Avengers film could lend even more credence to the idea that not just one but both realities may wind up on the chopping block, reduced to nothingness in the cosmic waves of time.

In 2014/15's Secret Wars, which took its title from the original 1985 Secret Wars comic event, a series of Incursions leads to basically the entire Marvel Multiverse being destroyed, with only Doctor Doom himself able to preserve reality itself from collapsing.

Pulling together shards of destroyed worlds from across the Multiverse, Doom becomes the absolute master of a hodgepodge reality called Battleworld, which exists in a tenuous feudal system under Doom's iron fist.

Only Reed Richards, Miles Morales' Spider-Man, and a few others remain outside Doom's control, eventually assembling a resistance against Doom. It all ends in a clash between Richards and Doom, with Mister Fantastic finally coming out the winner against his arch-nemesis.

After Secret Wars, Reed Richards leads his Future Foundation in rebuilding the lost Multiverse, with the original 616 being mostly restored - albeit with a few key changes that brought characters from alt-realities, such as Miles Morales, into the core Marvel Universe on a permanent basis.

What all this means is, in the question of whether the 616 or the Fox X-Men universe could survive their almost certain upcoming Incursion, the answer may in fact be that both universes will die right before our eyes - a tragic escalation of Thanos wiping out just half a universe in Avengers: Infinity War.

I'm certainly preparing my tissues, and I'm also setting my expectations that whatever comes out the other side, when the MCU is inevitably restored, it won't be quite exactly the world we've lived in for almost 20 years now.

<![CDATA[ After 15 years in the making, Thor and Loki's reunion in Avengers: Doomsday could be the perfect MCU conclusion for the characters ]]> Marvel took a pretty unusual approach to unveiling the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, and confirming that production is underway. After a series of chairs were revealed one by one on a five-hour livestream, we learned that the Thunderbolts* and the Fantastic Four would definitely be back, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever villain Namor would return, and several stars of Fox's X-Men movies would be making their MCU debut.

It was a lot to take in, but there was one smaller announcement that made me the most excited – the return of both Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston. Hemsworth was the first name to be announced, confirming a much-welcome, if slightly surprising, comeback as Thor after the mixed reception to Thor: Love and Thunder. Then, hours later, a new chair revealed that Hiddleston would make an appearance as the God of Mischief after what we thought might be the end of him in Loki season 2.

While no plot details have been confirmed for Doomsday yet, aside from it centering around Robert Downey Jr.'s villain Doctor Doom, I feel almost certain this news means we'll get a long-awaited Thor and Loki reunion. After all, it's one bit of closure that the MCU definitely needs, and something that's been almost 15 years in the making.

Long-lost brothers

Thor and Loki's relationship has been a mainstay of all of the MCU phases so far, from their early strife fuelling Thor (2011) and the first Avengers movie to their brotherly banter feeding into other appearances in Thor sequels and Avengers team-ups. It's never been an easy ride for the diametrically opposed siblings, but they did manage to reach some sort of uneasy truce the last time they were together.

After the events of Thor: Ragnarok brought them back into each other's lives, they teamed up to lead the remaining survivors of New Asgard to safety. However, that reunion was swiftly ended by Thanos, who killed Loki in the opening scenes of Avengers: Infinity War. But while this is the last time the brothers saw each other, it was by no means the end of either of their stories.

Thor went on to redeem himself in the battle against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame and have some closure with Jane in Thor: Love and Thunder. Meanwhile, a younger version of Loki was resurrected, spawned from the time-travel in Avengers: Endgame, and embarked on a time-bending, heartbreaking adventure in Loki seasons 1 and 2. The latter ended with him making the ultimate sacrifice to become the keeper of the branched timelines and saving the multiverse.

Thor's journey has been a compelling ride, but it's Loki's growth from scheming brother to selfless hero that is arguably the most nuanced and interesting of any in the MCU so far. However, I've always felt like one thing was missing from it: his brother Thor had no idea about his new life and all of his sacrifices. Luckily, it seems the Russo brothers felt the same way, too.

Complicated connections

Of course, a reunion between the pair will not be a straightforward one. Thor believes his brother Loki to be dead and it's a much different version of Loki that he'd see again in this new story. However, it might just be the kind of closure that both of them need in order to bid their characters a proper farewell.

I have no idea how the Russos might bring them back together. It could be something to do with Doctor Doom's introduction as a potential Iron Man variant, or it could be that Loki will need to be consulted to help in a future conflict between worlds. To be perfectly honest, I don't really care how it happens, I just want to see them reconnect one final time.

After all, it does seem like the end is nigh in the MCU for both Hiddleston and Hemsworth. Having been part of this world since its early days, the duo are some of the last-remaining original Avengers cast members.

Hemsworth has previously spoken about how he thinks his next Marvel return might be his last, too. Chatting with Vanity Fair after the release of Thor: Love and Thunder, he said: "I feel like we'd probably have to close the book if I ever did it again, you know what I mean? I feel like it probably warrants that. I feel like it'd probably be the finale. But that's not based on anything anyone's told me or any sort of plans."

Hiddleston has shared similar sentiments with regard to saying goodbye to the MCU. "I feel very satisfied with the finale of season 2, because it seems to contain echoes and resonances of the entire journey," he told Screen Rant. "It's almost like a piece of music, where in that last episode, you hear strains of, you know, whether it's in lines of dialogue, we are circling the same themes that I've always circled with Loki."

And now we know that they'll both be back for at least one more film in Avengers: Doomsday, wouldn't the perfect end to both of their stories be a callback to where it all began?

Hemsworth and Hiddleston's chemistry on screen is what first got me hooked on Marvel movies when I first watched Thor 14 years ago and while my investment has begun to wane in the intervening years, the prospect of one final exchange is tantalizing. It will be fraught with emotion and pathos undoubtedly, as well as bringing home some key themes that have always circled Thor and Loki like sacrifice, competition, and unbreakable bonds. And say what you will about the Russo brothers, they know how to nail an emotional goodbye.

<![CDATA[ The new Thunderbolts teaser namedrops the Avengers twice, less than a day after the cast was confirmed for Doomsday ]]> In a spot of smooth brand synchronicity, the new teaser for Thunderbolts* namedrops the MCU's main team of heroes twice, right on the heels of the cast being announced for Avengers: Doomsday. Now the next major Marvel crossover is underway, it seems the last remaining film in Marvel Phase 5 is starting to give us a little more food for thought.

The 30 second long tease mostly recycles the same footage we've already seen, of the ragtag team coming together to face Sentry, who has a knack for disappearing people in an instant. The first mention of Avengers comes from Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who describes Sentry as "stronger" than every Avenger combined.

Mel, Valentina's assistant portrayed by Geraldine Viswanathan, makes the other, pointing out the "Avengers are gone," and nobody's going to save the world. Sebastian Stan as Bucky is edited to counter-point her statement with a line suggesting the Thunderbolts could be the saviors here.

This comes right after it's been confirmed several members of the Thunderbolts* cast will feature among the heroes in Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel sprang an hours-long livestream on the internet on March 26, 2025, revealing everyone's seat for production of the studio's next tentpole team-up extravaganza.

Stan, Florence Pugh, Lewis Carroll, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour and Hannah John-Kamen are included in a line-up which contains Patrick Stewart, Tom Hiddleston, Alan Cumming, Vanessa Kirby and many more. It's one stacked list of stars.

The notion of the Thunderbolts becoming Avengers probably won't seem too radical by the time the movie's over. In fact, it looks like they quite literally be part of the initiative in some capacity. We might even get a face turn from Sentry by the end!

Thunderbolts* opens in cinemas May 2, 2025. Check out our guide to The Fantastic Four: First Steps to see what’s going on with this year’s other Marvel blockbuster.

<![CDATA[ The Avengers vs. X-Men logo may have been spotted in the latest Doomsday reveal, fueling theories for the upcoming Marvel movies ]]> The X-Men are going to play a big role in Avengers: Doomsday. We know that because a bunch of them, including Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, are confirmed for the gigantic MCU crossover. Their presence is fueling a lot of theorizing, and some fans think they may have spotted the Avengers vs. X-Men logo.

After the livestream where we got the heroic cast, literally chair by chair, Marvel Studios posted a full image of everyone’s seats for the start of production. Though it seems inconspicuous, a poster on Reddit noticed something about the shadows in one spot.

To the left of the picture, the lights behind the chairs make a shadow that looks remarkably like an 'X' and an 'A' sitting atop each other. The belief now is this is a subtle tease for a logo combining the two teams.

While this may seem like something of a stretch, there's actually some precedence. In the lead up to Avengers: Endgame, before we know the proper title, the Russo brothers posted a behind-the-scenes image with the caption, "Look hard." Fans eventually picked out the letters to 'Endgame' from the picture, adding fuel to the fire of that being the title.

This could be a similar situation. It's enough to fuel speculation of what the X-Men and Avengers film will look like. Marvel Studios could go straight for some version of Avengers vs. X-Men, where the two teams come to blows over the arrival of the Phoenix Force.

Another compelling theory is the incorporation of the modern Secret Wars comic series, where Doctor Doom creates Battleworld to pit heroes against each other. In this sequence of events, Doomsday would have the Fantastic Four and X-Men are recruited by Doom to attack the Sacred Timeline. While everyone's dealing with that, Doom goes to replace Loki as the God of Stories.

This leads to Secret Wars for Avengers 6. There's some level of merit to all these ideas right now, mostly because we know very little overall, and it could be a while before we get any substantial updates.

Whatever happens, one thing's for sure: having Ian McKellen back as Magneto will be awesome. Have a look at our guide to The Fantastic Four: First Steps for the Marvel's next incursion onto the silver screen.
